Most libraries are financed from the local public funds, i.e. from the budgets of towns, cities, schools, research institutes and other organisations that manage their libraries. Limited number of central libraries, such as the National Library, the National Technical Library, the National Medical Library are financed from the state budget.
The libraries have access to several state grant programmes, to support programmes of the European Union, to foundations and other financial sources:
- Project Internet to the Libraries VISK – Public Information Services
- Library of the 21st Century
- Structural funds of the European Union
- Further programmes and projects supporting libraries
